AGRICULTURAL CONSERVATION TECHNICIAN
POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
The Columbia County Conservation District is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Agricultural Conservation Technician.
This position provides an opportunity to help conserve our soils and improve our water quality while working in a fast-paced environment. Position offers indoor and outdoor work and includes excellent benefits. Qualified applicants must have a strong agricultural background with a good working knowledge of crops, soils, nutrients, animal husbandry, hydrology, land use and geography. Strong communication, math, computer, and technical-writing skills are recommended. Applicants must be self-motivated, able to work independently, and have excellent organizational skills.
This is a new, full-time position through the State Conservation Commission’s Agriculture Conservation Assistance Program (ACAP). Funding for this position is secured for four years and may be renewed the state legislature in the future. A Bachelors Degree in Agronomy, Agriculture, Natural Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related fields are preferred, or equivalent experience that may qualify at the discretion of the CCCD.
The Agricultural Conservation Technician will work with CCCD’s Agricultural Conservation Specialist to provide direct technical and administrative assistance to owners and operators of Columbia County farms. Duties include administration of the ACAP Program assisting interested landowners with farming best management practices, developing conservation plans, and implementation oversight of program approved farm construction projects. The Agricultural Conservation Technician will also provide technical assistance with environmental compliance requirements, conduct site visits and follow up on reported issues.
Salary is based on district pay scale and includes an excellent benefit package. The applicant must maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and state and federal clearances are required as a condition of employment.
