This is a planting demonstration held recently at M&A Farms near Catawissa, PA as part of a soil health meeting.   Mark Rohrbach from M&A farms recently installed row mounted cover crop rolling units on his John Deere Corn planter.   In this video he was demonstrating planting corn into a Rye and Hairy vetch Cover Crop that was green (alive)- pay attention at the end of the video clip and notice the height of the cover crops. This rolled cover will be sprayed with a herbicide to kill the cover crop  within 5 days.    Planting “green” is a fairly new conservation and soil health technique  being adopted by some growers in an effort to improve soil health on their operations.   At the meeting the discussion was centered around the planter’s roller attachments as well as the benefits of cover crops in a crop rotation along  with planting green as a way to improve soil health.
